QA/QC Inspection Training

Every product required Quality checks to ensure that the errors occurred during production are within tolerance.

Every manufactured part need to fit into some other part in the assembly, hence dimensional check is extremely important. QA (Quality Assurance) & QC (Quality Control) is a domain in every manufacturing organization, employing many engineers. Every manufacturing organization has QA & QC department, in addition to Production QC and Standard Room.

CMM Inspection

One of the key instruments in today's industry is CMM. CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) is a device that measures the geometry of physical objects by sensing discrete points on the surface of the object with a probe. Various types of probes are used in CMMs, including mechanical, optical, laser, and white light. Depending on the machine, the probe position may be manually controlled by an operator or it may be computer controlled. CMMs typically specify a probe's position in terms of its displacement from a reference position in a three-dimensional Cartesian coordinate system (i.e., with XYZ axes). In addition to moving the probe along the X, Y, and Z axes, many machines also allow the probe angle to be controlled to allow measurement of surfaces that would otherwise be unreachable.

During CMM inspection, the component kept on the CMM table is aligned with respect to the origin defined in the drawing and various dimensions are inspected. CMM report is compared with the drawing dimension, given in the drawing.

2. Non-Contact type Scanning:

Modern organizations have resorted to Scanning based Inspection for Quicker & Error free inspection.

The subject part is scanned using Blue light/White light/Laser. After conducting the Scanning of a component, point cloud is generated. The point cloud, in the form of .stl file, can be utilized for 2 purposes.

1. Reverse Engineering - 3D printing of the component can be created through Additive Manufacturing System

2. QA/QC Inspection

Details of the Training

a) The .stl file is compared with the given 3D model or 2D drawing through software - Polyworks ( by Innovmetric - Canada ) and the deviation from the drawing / model is compared and the report is generated.

b) The need for Inspection :

  • FAI (First Article Inspection)
  • Inspection of Tools ( Core, Cavity, Die etc.)
  • Inspection of Finished parts
